BRGTN & Boardettes presents Seaside Sessions Skate Festival on July 4th and 5th!
Boardettes is super stoked to be co-hosting the Seaside Sessions: a two-day skate festival on Brighton seafront’s Hove Lawns. The 4th and 5th of July will see the raddest athletes represent and well loved brands (both indie and mainstream) pull out all the stops to make this a special moment for the wider boarding movement.
There is no doubt it is, because the prime spot on Saturday afternoon is the girls sessions where the creme-de-la-creme of girls on boards will show off their tricks with Shelldog Yates hyping it all up with her MC skills, giving out product and cash prizes for the taking.
An offshoot of Paddle Round the Pier, we’re doing this part of the programme in collaboration with BRGTN; a great local brand that is the brainchild of veteran rider Nick Smith. He’s a chilled out dude all about spreading positivity with skate: through the Advaita initiative in India where he’s set up a earth-positive and soul-nurturing skate park, and now with this bad boy event.
Despite the outstanding capabilities of tech, we’ve decided to support the handcrafting process. There will be a mini festival/market consisting of all members of the subculture who celebrate design, letterform, graffiti, art, raw material, natural textures and the general rendering of physical labour and labours of love.
Boardettes skate coach Harriet Alana will of course be on hand to teach the basics to beginners in the morning and Boardette’s rider Teresa Geer will be heading up the longboard dancing jam on the prom alongside our Brazilian longboard partners Guanabara Boards.
What’s the whole point? Except for having some mad fun, the event hopes to raise awareness of the Advaita initiative coined ‘Redressing the Balance’. It’s aim is to build a prototype community hub for the folk of Ranchi (India), giving the young and vulnerable an ecosystem of positivity in the form of a green skatepark with board press, an environmentally friendly building with solar panelling, equipment for rain water harvesting and an organic veg garden.
