In July 2014, Bill Bycroft and Rachel Turner travelled from New Zealand to Phnom Penh to meet the Skateistan Cambodia team. The couple share a passion for skateboarding, traveling and filmmaking, and were inspired to see that skateboarding has such a positive impact on kids.
Skateboarding is only just emerging as a sport in Cambodia, and the film demonstrates how it can be used it as tool for self-empowerment, access to education and creating better futures. Each week Skateistan Cambodia works with over 150 marginalized youth in the city of Phnom Penh.
A note from Bill and Rachel:
We believe that Skateistan is a unique and worthwhile cause and want more people to know about it, and support it. The short time we had at Skateistan made a real impression on us. It was inspiring to see the positive effect that skateboarding is having on the kids who are part of the program. The staff working there are proof that skateboarding changes lives. We saw a lot of NGO’s doing great work in Cambodia but for us there was something special about an NGO using skateboarding as an outreach. That just clicked for us. Thank you Skateistan.
