People who wish to start losing weight on a high-sugar or high-carbohydrate diet are essentially setting themselves up to fail. And despite how much exercising you do in the gym or sticking to a diet helps, if your cravings remain high, you’re in trouble.

If your hunger is not suppressed, you will eat more food and burn fewer calories. Besides, you’ll want to consume more as you go work out to compensate for your energy expenditure. This way of eating isn’t the way to lose weight.

Some people succeed in losing weight by sticking to their meals and exercise routines. However, research shows that they recoup all of their losses in only 12 months. This is because the body triggers weight-regulating hormones. These hormones influence your hunger, body fat composition and metabolism rate.

This hunger suppressor also claims to enhance your metabolism by triggering thermogenesis, a process of burning fat to produce heat. Aside from that, Leanbean promises to provide energizing workouts to help you avoid fatigue.

The blend of natural substances, according to the manufacturer, was created primarily to aid women. They studied female appetites and came up with this appetite suppressant that would promote weight loss.

According to reviews, users reported significant body weight and shape improvements. Many consumers claim to have lost one to two clothing sizes after consuming the Leanbean, some even state that their metabolism has increased. Overall, the effects of this organic supplement have received a lot of excellent feedback.

Zotrim’s unique blend of natural herbs, caffeine, and vitamins offer two benefits: greater efficacy and better comfort.

The energy boost that Zotrim provided was a noticeable benefit that clients noticed during and after their workouts. The numerous favorable client evaluations indicate that it does indeed reduce appetite. However, the weight loss procedure is sluggish, but it still happens.

For years, Zotrim’s expert panel, scientists, and producers struggled to find the ideal combination of this herbal appetite suppressant to achieve outstanding results.

On its website, Zotrim is rather open about the clinical research and articles that have been approved by experts. There is a clear indication of five there.

In the initial study that demonstrated how the supplement makes individuals eat less, participants who took Zotrim consumed an average of 112 fewer calories, consumed fewer high-fat foods, and finished their meals 3 minutes earlier than those who did not take Zotrim.

The second one showed that consumers had reduced hunger. People’s bellies took 38 minutes to clear after consuming a placebo, but 58 minutes to empty after taking Zotrim, indicating that they felt fuller for longer.

The others demonstrated that it decreased snacking, increased performance by 12%, and provided greater energy for exercise.

Product Ingredients

Only six ingredients make up this OTC appetite suppressant: yerba maté, damiana leaf extract, caffeine, guarana seed extract, and vitamins B3 and B6.

Yerba maté and guarana seed blend with pure caffeine to produce a mildly stimulating impact that gives you the energy and focus needed to keep up with work and family obligations.

It also uses Damiana leaf extract’s inherent aphrodisiac characteristics to boost your mood and keep your mind active without crashing in the afternoon.

Finally, the tried-and-true blend of vitamins B6 and B3 helps decrease cholesterol, is potent at boosting metabolism, breaking down stored fats into energy, and improving cognitive function. Our Methodology for Ranking Top Appetite Suppressant Pills

Many appetite suppressant supplements advertise their brands in the best language possible. And that is why you can never trust everything on a shelf.

So these are the criteria we used to come up with our list of the best appetite-suppressing supplements

Claims and Scientific Evidence

The first stop we made was to evaluate the brands’ claims as to what they purported to offer. After that, we took a look at the scientific evidence, and ingredients to ascertain that they are effective as the advertised claims and are truly the best appetite suppressant pills.

Company Reputation

When choosing natural appetite suppression supplements, including diet pills, the firm from which the supplement is sourced is crucial. It demonstrates their dependability, transparency, and efficiency.

And the easiest method to find out everything you need to know about an appetite suppressant brand is to use the web to read other company reviews, traverse social networks, and scour reviews made by previous customers to find the best appetite suppressants on the market.

Some appetite suppressants cost an arm and a leg when used long-term. The ones we used are one of the most affordable ones in the market that you may utilize for months without breaking the bank.

Please go for bulk buys, discounts, and couponing to save some cash. Memberships to programs in the company may also save you a few bucks on shipping costs.

Refund Policy

The refund policy that is 30-days and beyond offers clients a chance to use an appetite suppressant for that period. Not all companies offer consumers the chance to use the product before returning it, so read the fine print.

A refund policy also shows that the manufacturer is transparent with their claims as they are willing to accept it back if it does not meet the goals.

And if they are not satisfied, this policy states the procedure to return the product to get a refund. All the companies listed here have return policies and money-back guarantees. How To Shop The Best Appetite Suppressant Supplements

Professional Certifications and Clean Labels

Labels should contain ingredients in the proper proportions. So how do you decipher this?

Look for a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) from a third-party lab. If the results are publically available, the better for you as that is a clean label. Products certified by one of the professional organizations noted here all practice quality assurance. They will certain a clean label, so look for such certifications as NSF, USP, and on the labels.

Seals such as non-GMO, allergen-free, organic, and vegan-certified provide you additional guarantees about the product’s quality and indications for use. Also, supplements should all be made in facilities that practice Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in facilities approved by the FDA. A GMP seal means there is a quality improvement/control system in place and active monitoring for quality assurance is a standard of practice.

Natural Ingredients

Natural ingredients are the least tampered with, they retain their organic wholesomeness that the human body better assimilates. If you see that most of its ingredients are natural and do not have synthetic ingredients, go for that brand.

Ensure it does not have added sugars or controversial ingredients that may harm your health.

Additional Benefits

Besides appetite suppression, what else does the self-proclaimed top appetite suppressant offer?

If it has extras like boosting energy, optimizing the heart, skin, liver, immune system, or other health benefits, consider those benefits when choosing a brand that meets your health goals.

Adequate Dosages

Thankfully, the internet is a hub of information where you can research the appropriate dosages of nutrients.

By referring to your research and the ingredient concentrations on the label, you have the cheat sheet on the ideal appetite suppressant pills that is within the recommended Daily Value for any element. The label will tell you what percentage of the Daily Value a nutrient provides, which is a useful tool in determining nutrient adequacy. Note that the Daily Value (DV) is usually based on a 2,000-calorie diet and is not the same as the Recommended Dietary Allowances. The DV is for the general population and the RDA is based on gender and age.

Customer Reviews

Finally, if the brand has excellent online reviews, they are most likely legit. But please be vigilant and refer to several sites before buying any. Also, keep in mind and expect a few negative comments here and there.

Not all dietary supplements work for everyone. We have different biological anatomies, and that is normal. Look for customer reviews on the product website, Amazon, Reddit, and Quora.

Killexams : Feeding the World for a Sustainable Future

In 2013, Jasmine Crowe was driving through downtown Atlanta when she came across hundreds of homeless people waiting outside a city shelter—including women and young children. “It was something I’d never seen before in my own city,” she recalls. “I said, ‘Hey, I want to do something.’”

Crowe was used to working with nonprofits. Since graduating college in 2005, she’d worked in public relations for the national basketball team based in Phoenix and started her own consultancy company to help pro sports players work with advocacy groups and nonprofits.

But witnessing the issue firsthand was a game changer.

“I knew I could keep watching or I could do something about it,” she says. “So I decided to do something.”

Crowe is now the founder of Goodr, the world’s first end-to-end technology company that connects restaurants with food shelters, ensuring food that would otherwise be wasted goes to people who need it.

But getting there was a roundabout journey.

Launching a Nationwide Movement with a Pop-Up

Crowe, 38, still remembers the first time she learned about people experiencing homelessness.

At eight years old, she accompanied her father, an Air Force pilot, on a trip to Washington, DC, where she saw people living on the streets. On the flight home to the military base near Wichita Falls, Texas, she began peppering him with questions. “I kept on asking, ‘Why do those people not have a house? That’s so unfair. What’s happening here?’” she recalls.

Homelessness is still an ongoing challenge in the United States. According to a February 2022 report by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, over 326,000 people in the country experienced sheltered homelessness—whether in emergency shelters or other transitional housing—on a single night in 2021.

In Atlanta, Crowe decided to help homeless people the only way she knew how: by throwing a dinner party. While still managing her consultancy business for professional athletes and celebrities, Crowe launched a pop-up restaurant to feed people for free in downtown Atlanta on weekends. As opposed to creating a simple soup kitchen, she rented tables with chairs and linens, bought flower arrangements, played old-school R&B music, printed menus with five-course meals (including vegetarian options), and offered warm towels for washing hands and faces before meals. She called it Sunday Soul, and paid for everything herself. “I wanted people to feel like they were eating at a restaurant,” she says. “We called it dining with dignity.”

Soon, Crowe’s pop-up went viral. Someone took a video of Sunday Soul and posted it on social media, where the video quickly racked up millions of views. “I thought something was wrong with my app,” she recalls. “I woke up one morning to thousands of comments and friend requests. People were saying, ‘This is the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen.’”

Crowe’s initiative was taking off—she would ultimately serve over 83,000 meals—but paying for the pop-ups and cooking all the food, while still running her company, was proving impossible. One night, while she was looking into how restaurants use their leftovers, she stumbled upon a shocking statistic: Up to 40 percent of the nation’s food supply is estimated to be wasted each year.

“Wasted food is the single largest category of material placed in municipal landfills and represents nourishment that could have helped feed families in need,” a 2021 report by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration states.

For Crowe, the revelation changed everything. “I was blown away by how much food was going to waste, yet so many people were going hungry,” she says. “It made me upset, and that’s when I decided this should be a business.”

How Goodr is Creating a New Way to End Hunger—and Waste

In 2017, Crowe quit her agency to found Goodr, a new way to reduce food waste and hunger.

The idea was simple: help restaurants that had leftovers connect with food shelters in need. Ordering takeout online was easy, so Crowe assumed that there would be a way to create an app that offered similar ease of use. She had no background in coding, but she watched some online videos and recruited a few engineers at Georgia Tech University to help her create a beta version of the app. When it was hardly more than an idea, she entered it into the local hackathon—and won first place. She then used the prize money to hire more people to build it out further. She did this repeatedly: entering competitions with prize money that she then reinvested in Goodr.

Creating the technology wasn’t the only issue. Restaurants, she discovered, thinking they might be held liable if old food made people sick. Crowe quickly uncovered the national Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act, which ensured restaurants couldn’t be held liable if they donated food in good faith and met certain criteria.

Finally, Crowe pitched restaurants themselves. Working with a financial partner to navigate tax laws, she explained how businesses could get 30 percent of their annual taxes written off with food donations, while also reducing global emissions (due to reducing landfills) and helping feed people. She quickly got her first customer—a major television and media conglomerate—which was based in Atlanta. “An administrative assistant read about us on social media, called, and we started the beta program,” Crowe says. “We were off from there.”

Today, Goodr has a sophisticated network across the country. Restaurants visit the Goodr platform and enter the amount of food they have available for pickup, and the software calculates the number of meals it creates along with the estimated tax savings it will generate. A driver then picks up the food and delivers it to a shelter. So far, Goodr has served 30 million meals to people in need, diverted four million pounds of food from landfills, and delivered $6.3 million in tax deductions to partners.

Even more incredible, Crowe is continuing to grow the business while also raising a new baby.

“I’m really proud of what we’ve accomplished, but I know there’s so much more to do,” she says. “My goal is to help end hunger.”

Killexams : Food Security - Access for All Is a Human Right

By Margarita Lysenkova, Manager – Sector Program, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)

Northampton, MA --News Direct-- GRI

Food imports from both countries

Ores mined in war zones have long been subject to heightened attention when it comes to sustainability and reputational risks. Yet in 2022, it is the production and sourcing of ‘soft’ commodities, like wheat, that are increasingly under scrutiny.

As the conflict in Ukraine continues to escalate, the impacts on sustainable development become more pronounced, and the vulnerabilities in global food supply chains are increasing. Almost half of the world’s calorie intake is derived from essential crops, such as maize, rice, and wheat – and according to World Bank analysis, Ukraine and Russia account for 29% of global wheat exports and 17.4% of world trade in maize. Supply of crucial cooking oils and fertilizers has also been affected.

Many companies have suspended trade and operations in Russia due to sanctions and stakeholder pressure. While the diplomatic agreement reached to unblock Black Sea trade routes from Ukrainian ports offers some encouragement, uncertainties remain. In addition, concerns over products being obtained under extortion add to the challenges for companies involved in commodity trade throughout the region.

Rights to food are being eroded

It goes without saying that when agricultural areas are devasted and water installations destroyed, the right to food of the local population is violated. Yet the impact of the Ukraine crisis spreads well beyond the nation’s borders. It is expected that many millions will be at risk of hunger globally as a result of tightening supply and affordability of essential crops, which comes on top of existing difficulties that have already been exacerbated by two and a half years of COVID-19.

Not all world regions are exposed in the same way. Where people are already experiencing severe poverty, the risks of hunger and malnutrition are much higher. As the World Food Programme has warned, countries dependent on food exports from the conflict-affected region are being hit hardest. Meanwhile, to prevent local shortages, we are seeing some countries restricting food exports, which may further impact the global supply.

When viewed from the human rights perspective, the right to food for many is not primarily about a lack of sufficient quantity but lack of access – largely due to affordability. However, with continuing declines in Russia-Ukraine food exports, we are seeing heightened concern over insufficiency of food availability. Less crops harvested and planted in 2022 is likely to instigate a spiral of worsened food security in the year ahead.

Global baseline for transparency

Most food is produced, processed, traded, and distributed by private businesses. At the same time, when an individual company looks at their impacts on food security in isolation, it often struggles to determine them. Multinational companies may also focus on developed markets where food security is not a significant concern. The risk is that food security is perceived as a macro “development” issue, which is why expectations for transparency on food security is relatively new for many companies.

The GRI Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fishing Standard (GRI 13), launched in June, supports any organizations operating in these sectors to communicate and disclose their sustainability impacts in a comprehensive and comparable way. This new reporting standard singles out food security as one of the significant issues that companies need to consider, providing a new global baseline for transparency on the topic.

As GRI 13 recognizes, there is no silver bullet solution to global food security. A myriad of approaches and actions are needed, including:

  • Strengthening capacity for farmers to increase production and supply, such as a newly launched US$1.5 billion African Emergency Food Production Facility that is delivering urgently needed seeds and fertilizers and helps producers to cover food shortages in the region. Rising fuel and transportation costs is another pressure on farmers’ incomes, further increasing the vulnerability of small producers. By reporting their contribution to economic inclusion of farmers, companies can demonstrate the role they are playing – and where more action is needed.

  • Partnerships and collaboration to alleviate food security concerns, with some companies working with governments and international development institutions. For example, a link up between the International Finance Corporation and Olam Agri will boost exports of wheat, maize and soy to developing countries. The existing distribution channels of companies can be leveraged in cases of a crisis for a prompt response. This why GRI 13 recognizes partnerships on food security as key information to report.

  • Greater action on food loss, to ensure more food is persevered for human consumption. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization, globally 13.8% of food is lost from harvest to retail. And of course, mitigating food loss also brings cost savings and economic benefits, while reporting can help assess the efforts to minimize food loss.

  • Food sovereignty policies, which emphasize local resilience within agriculture systems, to help countries that are largely dependent on food imports to redress the balance and reduce vulnerability to crises in other regions. Localized food production also reduces the distance between producers and consumers. By reporting actions to strengthen food security at the local and regional level, companies can highlight how they address food security locally or regionally.

  • Trade-offs and compromises – such as those related to land use for products, or changes to align dietary choices with sustainably produced food. As the EAT-Lancet Commission report outlines, food production needs to shift to be beneficial for both human health and the environment. This means businesses need to be taking active decisions about how they are using land and natural resources.

A persistent and pressing challenge

The actions of the companies producing the essential food and materials on which humanity’s survival depends can be a multiplying factor when it comes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. And given we are presently on a trajectory to fail to reach SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), with 800 million people going hungry every day (according to a UN Food & Agriculture Organization report), it’s clear that we need private companies to take greater accountability for their food security related impacts.

The global population is projected to rise to 10 billion by 2050, meaning that we can expect the issue of food security will continue to rise up priority lists – for governments, policy makers and big business alike. That means that civil society groups, responsible investors and other stakeholders will press companies to be transparent.

Food is more than just a commodity that can be left to the whims of market forces – nor should its supply and security be undermined as a consequence of armed conflicts and natural disasters. The integration of food security considerations into the sustainability strategies of companies, as encouraged through GRI’s new Sector Standard, is a crucial next step towards the long-term solution.

Dahiru Mohammed is determined to use the platform of the Presidential implementation committee to make a difference, writes Dike Aguonye

A banker and international trade expert, Dahiru Mohammed leads the next frontier of work to tackle one of Nigeria’s most challenging problems – hunger. Strongly believing that the state of the hunger challenge in Nigeria is a result of a multi-sectoral failing, Mohammed wants a framework for tackling the problem recognizing and utilizing multi-faceted approaches. He intends to pursue a pragmatic programme that connects the dots from multiple windows to arrest the obvious gaps. President Muhammed Buhari on December 10, 2020 inaugurated the Presidential Implementation Committee on the Bilateral Agreement between Nigeria-Czech Republic with Mohammed as chairman.

The agreement aims to promote mutually beneficial scientific research and development activities including the establishment of a framework to embed applied research and innovation in public policy, business and entrepreneurship. One of the focal sectors for this agreement is in the area of agriculture and food technology. The direct feature of the two-nation agreement is on improved trade, creation of co-investment hubs to grow the economic value of vital sectors such as agriculture and food security.

The challenge of hunger is a major problem that successive governments have expended a lot of energy and investment on without fully addressing. The mass hunger scale is still one of the disturbing features of Nigeria. It is increasingly attaining an endemic national scale. For instance, the Global Hunger Index ranks Nigeria as the number 10 most hungry country in the world. Arising from this sorry position, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has called attention to adverse nutritional challenge among children in Nigeria, rating the country second highest population of stunted children in the world.

This challenge, according to records, is most widespread in the states of the northern parts of the country. Noted as the most agricultural active state in Nigeria, the grave irony is that it is currently the states in the north of the country that feature exclusively among the 10 most affected states with its children’s population between 42 percent and 58 percent adversely affected by poor nutrition. The Integrated Food Security classification (IPC) and the Farming Early Warning systems (FEWS) have generated equally frightening data on the food crisis in Nigeria.

They state that 23.9 million people in Nigeria are in a condition under access to food index described as stressed while 8.5 million people in the country are currently in a food crisis with a significantly over half a million people in a condition they describe as a food emergency situation. These data present very depressing context but also offer those in the position of shaping and influencing policy a fairly complete picture of the demon they must confront.

The foregoing casts a formidable and enormous task before anyone who is desirous of reversing the shortcomings in the agricultural sector, who aims to roll back the fangs of hunger in the country must come to terms with. Part of the focal sectors the Nigeria-Czech agreement is gearing up energy to bring about a turnaround in its agriculture and food technology. In effect, it is easy with the depressing picture painted above to surmise what the derivable for a successful implementation of that agreement is as it relates to agriculture.

The Nigeria-Czech agreement for which the Presidential Implementation Committee is saddled with translating into tangible benefits on Nigerians in specific focal sectors has assured that it is not intimidated by the weight of the problems in any of the focal sectors among which is the agricultural sector. Without doubt, for Mohammed and the members of the Presidential Implementation committee the data in that sector reflect a very disturbing reality. His team, according to him, would rather choose to see an opportunity to use the platform in their hands to reverse the ugly manifestations.

Accordingly, he is determined to use the platform of the Presidential implementation committee to activate a multi-sectoral re-energizing capability of overhauling the agricultural value chain as well as its business ecosystem. He sees a lot of work ahead in using new technology to generate fresh knowledge base as well as new skills that can productively and commercially transform the local food chain, food technology and the mass nutritional needs of Nigerians in a manner that speedily begins to reverse the ugly trend of aggravating hunger and nutritional deficiencies.

The Presidential Implementation Committee was inaugurated on December 10, 2020 at the Presidential Villa by the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari. Members of the Committee include Chief of Staff to the President; a representative of the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning; a representative of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment; the head of the Nigeria-Czech Republic Trade and Investment Council who serves as the chairman of the committee and the Executive Vice Chairman of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).

President Buhari while inaugurating the Presidential Implementation Committee stated that the objective of the initiative was to actualize the core targets of the bilateral agreement on transfer of technology, information sharing between Nigeria and the Czech Republic in relevant areas of need. The President who spoke through Prof. Gambari enjoined the Committee to swing into action by swiftly translating the vision contained in the agreement into tangible positive daily reality for Nigerians.

He expressed the hope that the impact of its work would soon show in reversing the already dire needs that reflect in the myriads of socio-economic challenges facing the country. Nigeria, according to the president, needed a sustained productive economy propelled by technology and new innovative capacity. He said that as part of the government’s response for wealth and job creation through technology transfers and adaptation from advanced countries, it had become necessary to revive the implementation protocols of the Nigeria and Czech Republic agreement.

He extolled Nigeria’s potential strategic positioning as a global market destination. Czech Republic, on the other hand, being a formidable technology and innovation provider, makes the partnership between both nations the envy of other African countries. The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) is positioned to serve as a step-down agency for the technology interactions that will be activated with the Presidential Implementation.

Mohammed is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Loans and Risk Management, Nigeria, a member of Technical Working Group Vision 20.20, recipient of an award for Entrepreneurial and Economic Development as well as several other awards and recognitions on Cost, Profitability and Business Developments.

Killexams : Zero Hunger Is Unlikely to Be Achieved by 2030, UN and OECD Say — Update

By Yusuf Khan

The goal of removing world hunger is unlikely to be achieved by 2030, despite improvements in crop yields and agricultural practices, according to a new report on Wednesday from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

Food output and farming practices are likely to Improve agricultural productivity over the next decade, but at the moment these improvements are unlikely to reduce emissions from agriculture or achieve zero hunger by 2030.

"To achieve the zero-hunger target while simultaneously keeping agricultural emissions on track to reach the Paris Agreement targets, average global agricultural productivity would need to increase by 28% over the next decade," the report said, adding that this would be more than triple the increase in productivity that has been seen over the past 10 years.

Crop yields would need to be 24% higher, which is close to double the rate of improvement over the past decade, while animal productivity would need to increase by 31% on average, the report said.

The two bodies called for "comprehensive action to boost agricultural investment and innovation and to enable the transfer of knowledge, technology, and skills" to help Improve agricultural productivity.

"We need to do new things and invest in new things, but also think about doing things differently," Lee Ann Jackson, head of the OECD's agro-food trade and markets division, said. More digital options could Improve productivity while also cutting emissions, she added.

Food consumption is likely to increase by 1.4% a year through 2031, outstripping the growth in agricultural output which is likely to be 1.1% a year, according to the report. The increase in consumption is likely to be driven by lower income countries which are likely to have higher rates of population growth, it said.

Macroeconomic uncertainty is also going to be a major factor in determining agricultural output and economic growth over the next 10 years given the effect of the pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war on supply chains and the economy as a whole, according to the report. The report noted that the International Monetary Fund projected global gross domestic product to grow by 2.7% a year on average over the next decade, "which is below the [prepandemic] projections."

Meat production is likely to rise by 1.5% a year over the next decade on improvements in feed for animals, according to the report. This increase is likely to be dominated by poultry, which should make up roughly half of the growth in meat consumption, it said.

The report had taken into account some of the effects of the Russia-Ukraine war, noting both countries' importance in the global food supply chain--for example, 10% and 3% of global wheat production coming from Russia and Ukraine, respectively.

Wheat prices could remain 19% higher than pre-war levels if Ukraine's exports continue to remain restricted and could be 34% higher if Russia's exports are cut by half, OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann said in a press conference. "Export bans or export restrictions make the bad food security situation even worse for the world's poorest," he added.

The OECD and the UN FAO said because of the war, the large number of displaced people raises food-security concerns and that undernourishment is likely to increase by about 1% globally in 2022-23, the equivalent of around 8 million to 13 million people. This could rise to 19 million people by 2023-24 if the shortfall from Ukraine continues and no global response is taken.

Aside from food, demand for first generation biofuel feedstocks is likely to have limited growth to 2031 on lower fuel use and "weaker policy incentives in key markets, such as the European Union." India and Indonesia are likely have growth in this area, driven by "increasing fuel use, and efforts to support the domestic farm sector through higher biofuel blending rates."

Killexams : Live Updates: Ukrainian Grain Has Not Gone to Countries Most in Need
Ukraine claimed responsibility for a rare attack on a Russian air base in the occupied Crimean Peninsula.CreditCredit...Reuters

ODESA, Ukraine — A series of explosions rocked a key Russian air base on the Kremlin-occupied Crimean Peninsula on Tuesday, sending up huge plumes of smoke, killing at least one person and sowing confusion among local officials about what exactly had occurred.

As Russian and occupation officials scrambled to determine the cause, raising the terrorist threat level in the area, a senior Ukrainian military official with knowledge of the situation said that Ukrainian forces were behind the blast at the Saki Air Base on the western coast of Crimea.

“This was an air base from which planes regularly took off for attacks against our forces in the southern theater,” the official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive military matters. The official would not disclose the type of weapon used in the attack, saying only that “a device exclusively of Ukrainian manufacture was used.”

A Ukrainian attack on Russian forces in the Crimean Peninsula would represent a significant expansion of Ukraine’s offensive efforts, which until now have been largely limited to pushing Russian troops back from territories occupied after Feb. 24, when the invasion began.

It would also be an embarrassment for President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia, who often speaks of Crimea, which he illegally annexed from Ukraine in 2014, as if it were hallowed ground.

Ukraine possesses few weapons that can reach the peninsula, aside from aircraft that would risk being shot down immediately by Russia’s heavy air defenses in the region. The air base, which is near the city of Novofederivka, is nearly 200 miles from the nearest Ukrainian military position.

The senior Ukrainian official said the attack involved partisan resistance forces loyal to the government in Kyiv, but he would not disclose whether those forces carried out the attack or assisted regular Ukrainian military units in targeting the base, as has sometimes occurred in other Russian-occupied territories.

To reach targets deep behind enemy lines, Ukraine has increasingly turned to guerrillas in Russian-occupied territories, officials said. Partisans, for instance, have helped Ukrainian forces target Russian bases and ammunition depots in the Kherson Region, Ukrainian officials say.

Publicly, Ukrainian officials would not confirm the involvement of Ukraine’s military. Ukraine’s defense ministry said in a statement that it could not “determine the cause of the explosion,” and suggested that personnel at the base adhere to no-smoking regulations.

Other officials did not exactly deny that Ukraine was behind the explosion.

“The future of the Crimea is to be a pearl of the Black Sea, a national park with unique nature and a world resort, not a military base for terrorists,” Mykhailo Podolyak, a senior adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine, said in a tweet. “It is just the beginning.”

Russia’s Defense Ministry said in a statement that the explosion was caused by the detonation of stockpiled ordnance for warplanes at the base. While the ministry offered no speculation about whether Ukrainian forces might have been involved, the decision by Crimea’s Kremlin-installed leader, Sergei Aksyonov, to raise the terrorist threat level to yellow suggested that officials were concerned about security on the peninsula.

“This measure is exclusively prophylactic, because the situation in the region is under full control,” Mr. Aksyonov said in a statement on Telegram.

In the eight years of Russia’s occupation of Crimea, the peninsula has transformed from a quiet southern Ukrainian beach destination into a major base of military operations. It is from there that Russian forces lunged into southern Ukraine in a lightning operation after Feb. 24 that gobbled up a huge swath of territory, including the neighboring Kherson Region, which Russian forces almost fully control.

The Saki air base is home to Russia’s 43rd Separate Naval Attack Regiment, which is part of the Black Sea Fleet. Ukraine’s military intelligence service has accused pilots from the regiment of committing war crimes by bombing civilian areas during the war.

Shortly after the explosion occurred, Mr. Aksyonov arrived at the scene. Standing in front of a large black plume of smoke, he said that a three-mile perimeter had been erected around the site of the base to protect residents.

“Unfortunately, one person died,” he said. “I express my most sincere sympathies to family and friends.” Crimea’s health ministry said that at least nine people had been injured.

Killexams : VICTOR DAVIS HANSON: Why we lost trust in the expert class

For years, European policymakers had assured the world that the relatively rapid “transition” to “green” energy was the world’s preordained future — regardless of the costs.

Accordingly, many European Union governments followed the advice of green experts. They eagerly shut down coal, natural gas and nuclear power plants to transition immediately to “renewable energy.” Most citizens were afraid to object that in cloudy, cold Germany solar panels were not viable methods of electrical generation — especially in comparison to the country’s vast coal deposits and its large, model nuclear power industry.

As a result, German government officials warn that this winter, in 19th-century fashion, families will have to burn wood — the dirtiest of modern fuels — to endure the cold. And there is further talk of “warm rooms,” where like pre-civilizational tribal people, the elderly will bunch together within a designated heated room to keep alive.

Sri Lanka may be the first modern nation to adopt deliberate policies that have led to mass hunger and bankruptcy. The government, for a variety of reasons, listened to foreign advocates of back-to-nature organic farming, specifically outright abandonment of highly effective synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.

The result was endemic crop failure. Cash crops for export failed. Widespread hunger followed. Without foreign exchange, it became impossible to import key staples such as food and fuel.

Sri Lanka once had a per capita income twice that of nearby India. Now it cannot feed or fuel itself.

Unfortunately, its incompetent government trusted radical environmental advisers, many of them foreign experts. Sri Lanka believed it could become the woke darling of the “Environmental, Social, Governance” movement, and in that way draw in unlimited Western woke investment.

Instead, it has embraced a policy of national suicide.

Recently, a group of 55 distinguished pro-administration economists assured us that President Joe Biden’s massive borrowing and new entitlements agenda were not inflationary. In September 2021, these economists with 14 Nobel prize winners among them declared that Biden’s inflationary policies would actually “ease” inflation.

Last month, inflation spiked to an annualized rate of 9.1 percent.

None of these “blue-chip” economists have offered any apologies for lending their prestige to convince Americans of the absurd: that inflating the money supply, spiking new government spending, incentivizing labor nonparticipation and keeping interest rates artificially low would not cause inflation.

In late July 2021, Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, claimed that the Taliban takeover “was not a foregone conclusion.” He bragged that 34 provincial capitals were still in Afghan government hands. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin nodded in approval.

Less than a month later, the entire Afghan government collapsed. The American military fled in its most ignominious retreat in more than 50 years. Milley had been parroting Biden’s earlier prompt that a Taliban victory after the American evacuation was “highly unlikely.”

On the eve of the 2020 election, news accounts revealed some of the lurid contents on Hunter Biden’s lost laptop. Emails and photos began to incriminate the entire Biden family for leveraging millions of dollars from foreign grandees for access to a bought Joe Biden.

Fifty retired intelligence officers, however, without evidence, swore that the laptop’s appearance could be from “Russian disinformation.” Yet after authentication — Hunter himself never denied the lost laptop was his — few if any of those marquee “experts” apologized for their election-driven dissimulation.

At the height of the massive 2020 enforced quarantine and lockdowns, some 1,200 medical and health “professionals” signed a petition claiming that thousands of left-wing protestors should be exempt from the very quarantine they had insisted on for others. The experts absurdly claimed that denying tens of thousands the right to break quarantines to protest in the street was a greater health threat than COVID-19.

FBI Director James Comey doggedly pursued the “Russian collusion” hoax. At one point he hired the discredited Christopher Steele to supply the FBI with information from his fantasy dossier. Once called to account, on some 245 occasions before Congress, Comey swore that he could either not remember or had no knowledge about the questions asked of him.

His successor, FBI interim Director Andrew McCabe, admittedly lied on four occasions to federal officials. Special counsel and former FBI director Robert Mueller himself swore under oath that he knew nothing either about the Steele dossier or Fusion GPS — the twin catalysts for his entire investigation.

FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith admitted to altering a federal court document in efforts to convict an innocent suspect.

All these depressing examples have one common denominator: Elite experts and degree-holding professionals massaged and warped their knowledge to serve ideological masters rather than the truth. In the process, they caused untold damage to their country and fellow citizens. They disgraced their profession. They tarnished the scientific community. And sold their souls to ideologues.

Is it any wonder why the Western public has lost confidence in their degreed and credentialed elites?

Killexams : Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger raises over $121,000 in June

Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger is pleased to announce it raised $121,036 as part of its 30-day, $100,000 Challenge fundraiser. This is the third year in a row that the Campaign has conducted this month-long fundraiser to benefit Good Shepherd Food Bank and local food pantries across the state.

“To coincide with National Hunger Awareness Month, Maine credit unions encouraged their members, local businesses, and others in their communities to make a donation to feed a hungry neighbor in need,” shared Todd Mason, president/CEO of the Maine Credit Union League. “And once again, Mainers stepped up to the challenge. We exceeded our fundraising goal and raised more dollars during this year’s Challenge than we did in 2021! I’m grateful for the outpouring of support for this important initiative and would like to thank everyone who made a contribution.”

The $100,000 Challenge kicked off on June 1 and ended on June 30. Donations were accepted online and in credit union branches throughout the month. Seventy-five percent of the funds raised by Maine credit unions online or at local branches will be used to support food pantries and meal sites. Twenty-five percent of the proceeds raised online will benefit the Good Shepherd Food Bank.

“Maine people never shy away from helping others in need, so while I’m thrilled with the fundraising results, I’m honestly not surprised we reached our goal to raise $100,000 in 30 days,” said Cheryl Lancaster, chief strategy officer at the Maine Credit Union League. “Hunger is a significant problem in our state, but if Mainers continue to come together through efforts like these, I’m hopeful we will eradicate hunger in the future. In the meantime, Maine credit unions will do their part to increase access to healthy and nutritious meals for people of all ages, in all corners of the state.”

A complete list of contributors to the $100,000 Ending Hunger Challenge can be found online at the Campaign’s website at Contributions to the Campaign for Ending Hunger can be made online throughout the year and in select credit union branches. You do not need to be a member of a Maine credit union to make a donation.

Since 1990, the Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger has raised over $11.3 million, including over $930,000 in food and cash contributions in 2021.
