The end of 2022 was marked by a series of executive departures at Salesforce, including the exit of co-CEO Bret Taylor, who had been heir apparent to CEO Marc Benioff.

2023 was also a year of change, starting with a major restructuring that included laying off 10% of the company's workforce and ending with some old familiar faces in the C-suite.

In the wake of pressure to up profit and cut costs from a group of activist investors, including Elliott Management and Starboard Value, some longtime company veterans left, and former executives have returned to help. Benioff affectionately refers to those who have re-joined as "boomerangs," and he has called for more to come join them as Salesforce ramps up generative AI efforts.

Meanwhile, chief operating officer Brian Millham's influence at the company is on the rise. Some have speculated he could be first in line to succeed Benioff as CEO — if and when Benioff decides to step down.

Below is a list of the major Salesforce executive changes in 2023.

COO Brian Millham took on additional responsibilities. He now oversees about 70% of Salesforce's employees.

President and COO Brian Millham has been with Salesforce since 1999, but his influence at the company has ballooned in the last 18 months, which has caused some speculation that he could be first in line to succeed CEO Marc Benioff. In 2023, Millham's purview expanded to include marketing, employee success, and business technology, in addition to his other responsibilities — global sales, customer success, global alliances and channels, and professional services. Millham was promoted to COO, two years after a promotion to chief customer success officer and COO of global distribution.

Chief business officer Ebony Beckwith left Salesforce after 14 years.

By the time company veteran Ebony Beckwith left Salesforce in May, she held three different titles: chief business officer, chief of staff to Marc Benioff, and CEO of Salesforce Foundation. Neither Salesforce nor Beckwith gave a reason for her departure. Her LinkedIn profile has not been updated with a new job. Beckwith joined Salesforce in 2008 and began leading philanthropic efforts in 2014.

Former CMO Sarah Franklin is leaving the company at the end of the year to join Lattice as CEO.

After 15 years at Salesforce, Sarah Franklin has been named CEO of HR software startup Lattice, run by Jack Altman, brother of Sam Altman. She starts on January 2. In June, Franklin moved from her role as Salesforce's chief marketing officer to chair of the advisory board alongside Alex Dayon, who is retiring at the end of the year. Franklin was named president and CMO in 2021. She joined the company's marketing department in 2008.

Ariel Kelman returned to Salesforce as chief marketing officer.

Former Oracle CMO Ariel Kelman took the top marketing job at Salesforce in June. Kelman is one of Benioff's "boomerangs" — he first worked for Salesforce from 2005 to 2011, when he left to run worldwide marketing at Amazon Web Services. After eight years at AWS, Kelman spent a year and a half as CMO of Oracle. Kelman left Oracle in August of 2022 after the restructuring of the marketing organization he'd spent nearly two years building. At the time, sources told Business Insider that Kelman had clashed with Oracle CEO Safra Catz over the changes, which included mass layoffs.

Former Okta CMO Kendall Collins joined Salesforce as Marc Benioff's chief of staff.

Another of Benioff's "boomerangs," Collins joined Salesforce in April as chief business officer and chief of staff, roles previously held by Ebony Beckwith. Collins first worked for Salesforce from 2004 to 2016 after spending the first few years of his career at Oracle. Most recently, Collins was CMO of cloud software company Okta. He left that role in February of 2022, staying on as an advisor.

Former chief people officer Brent Hyder left Salesforce in August for VF Corp.

Hyder's relatively short — but busy — run at Salesforce ended in August when he left to join apparel group VF Corp. as chief people officer. In the four years he was at Salesforce, Hyder's human resources organization oversaw a pandemic-fueled hiring spree, followed by a major restructuring initiative that included laying off 10% of the company. In June, Insider reported that Hyder offended some employees with comments he made during a Pride Month event. Hyder joined Salesforce in 2019 from Gap Inc., where he had been chief people officer.

Miguel Milano joined Salesforce as chief revenue officer.

Milano joined Salesforce as president and CRO in August. Another "boomerang," Milano first worked at Salesforce from 2011 to 2020, eventually overseeing the international sales organizations for Europe and the Middle East, Latin and Central Americas, Africa, and Asia-Pacific regions. Milano left Salesforce in 2020 for the German data processing company Celonis, where he was CRO until his return to Salesforce. Former Salesforce CRO Gavin Patterson left the company in January.

Lidiane Jones is leaving Slack to take the top job at Bumble.

Jones, a Salesforce product executive who was named CEO of Slack in January, was recently appointed to succeed Whitney Wolfe Herd as CEO of Bumble Inc. Jones starts at Bumble in January. She joined Salesforce in 2019 from Sonos Inc. and quickly worked her way up from vice president of product for Commerce Cloud to overseeing the entire division. Denise Dresser, a Salesforce executive, will replace Jones as Slack CEO.

Advisory board chair Alex Dayon is retiring at the end of the year.

Dayon, a 15-year Salesforce veteran, is set to retire at the end of the year, Salesforce said in June. He is currently president and special advisor to the CEO, working remotely from Paris, according to his LinkedIn. He was previously president and chairman of the advisory board, reporting directly to Benioff, and before that, held chief strategy at product roles. Dayon joined Salesforce in 2008 and at one point, was gifted an electric BMW by Benioff.

A new chief legal officer joined. The chief trust officer left.

After 18 months as Salesforce's chief trust officer, Vikram Rao left the company in October to take the top cybersecurity role at Atlassian.

In June, Sabastian V. Niles joined Salesforce as president and chief legal officer. Niles, formerly a partner at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen, & Katz, had been counseling Salesforce as it responded to a group of activist investors earlier in the year.

Is Mozilla Firefox not installing correctly on your Windows 11/10 PC? Some users have reported that they are unable to install the Firefox browser on their computers.

How do I install Firefox on Windows 11?

To install Firefox on a Windows 11 PC, visit the official website of Mozilla Firefox in Edge and then download the latest installer file for Windows OS. After that, run the downloaded setup file and perform the prompted steps to install Firefox. You can also install Firefox from Microsoft Store. Open Microsoft Store, search for Mozilla Firefox, tap on the app, and then press the Get button to download and install it on your computer.

However, see users have reported that the installation just gets stuck and the browser won’t install. Many users have also reported to be getting the following error message:

Hmm. For some reason, we could not install Firefox. Choose OK to start over.

This issue may occur in different scenarios. For example, while reinstalling the browser, updating the browser, or installing Firefox from scratch. 4. Manually update Firefox.
5. Temporarily disable your antivirus/firewall.

1] Run the installer as an administrator

The first thing you should do to fix the problem is launch the Firefox installer as an administrator. It might be a lack of necessary administrator permissions that is causing hurdles in installing Firefox on your PC. So, you can simply run the installer with administrator rights and see if the problem is resolved.

To do so, open File Explorer using Win+E and go to the Downloads or the folder where you have downloaded the setup file of Firefox. Now, right-click on the setup file and click on the Run as administrator option from the appeared context menu. Next, follow the prompted instructions and see if you are able to successfully install Firefox or not.

2] download a fresh setup file

It might be the case that you are facing the issue because of an incomplete or corrupted installer file. The download process might be interrupted due to network issues. Also, if you are using an old installer file to install Firefox, it might not install. Hence, if the scenario is applicable, you can delete the existing setup file and then download the latest installer file from the official website of Firefox or the Microsoft Store. See if you are now able to install the Firefox browser or not.

If you downloaded the setup from Microsoft Store, try downloading Firefox from its website instead of the Microsoft Store and see.

As reported by some users, they can’t download and install Firefox from Microsoft Store. If the same is applicable to you, download the Firefox installer from its official website and then try installing it on your computer.

On the other hand, if you are unable to install Firefox using its setup file, you can try installing the browser from Microsoft Store.

3] Completely uninstall Firefox from your PC and then reinstall it

In case you are trying to reinstall Firefox on your computer, you must uninstall it completely from your computer to avoid any issues. Apart from that, if you are facing this issue while trying to update your browser, you can first uninstall Firefox and then install its latest version to fix the issue.

To completely uninstall Firefox from Windows, follow the below steps:

First, press Win+I to open the Settings app and navigate to the Apps tab. Then, click on the Installed apps option and select the Mozilla Firefox app from the list of installed apps.

After that, press the three-dot menu button present next to Firefox and choose the Uninstall option. You now have to follow the instructions prompted on your screen and complete the app removal process.

When done, open File Explorer using Win+E and navigate to the C:\Program Files folder. From here, delete the Mozilla Firefox folder. Next, delete the Firefox folder from the C:\Program Files (x86) location as well.

Next, open the Run dialog using Win+R and enter the following address in its Open field:

%APPDATA%\Mozilla\

In the opened location, delete all the files and folders.

Now, restart your computer and download the latest installer for Firefox from its website. Hopefully, you will now be able to install Firefox without any issues.

4] Manually update Firefox

In case the issues occur when you are trying to update Firefox using its installer, you can manually update Firefox. Open Firefox, click on the three-bar menu button and choose the About Firefox option. Now, let Firefox look for available software updates. Once done, you can install the updates and restart the browser to complete the process.

5] Temporarily disable your antivirus/firewall

It could be your overprotective security program causing issues while installing Firefox. It might be preventing you from installing Firefox on your computer. Hence, it is suggested to temporarily disable your antivirus/firewall and then try installing Firefox on your PC. After the browser is installed, you can enable your security programs again.

How often do you need to run the Command Prompt, PowerShell, or Windows Terminal as administrator on your Windows 11/10? For me what happens is, I often forget to right-click and select Run as administrator and I know it only when I get the error in running any command as shown in the screenshot below. And trust me it annoys me too much go back and open it again with the administrator privileges.

You must be an administrator running a console session in order to use the sfc utility.

Well, in today’s post, we will learn how to always run Command Prompt, PowerShell, or Windows Terminall as administrator.

We will create desktop shortcuts to make Command Prompt and PowerShell run as administrators every time we open it. For Terminal, we will change a setting.

How to always run Command Prompt as Administrator

You have two options to always run an elevated CMD.

1] Create an elevated Desktop Shortcut For Command Prompt

To create a shortcut for Command Prompt, go to the Desktop.

• Right-click on the desktop > New > New Shortcut.
• Type cmd.exe in the box. Finish the shortcut wizard and you will see a Command Prompt shortcut on your desktop.
• Once created, right-click on the shortcut and go to Properties.
• Click on Advanced and it will open a new pop-up window.
• Check the box saying, “Run as administrator”
• Click OK and then Apply. 

Now you can open Command Prompt with just a single click. While you can disable UAC – it is not recommended at all as it could put your computer at a security risk.

2] Change Advanced properties of CMD.exe

If you don’t want to create a shortcut for Command Prompt on your desktop, you can just change the Properties of CMD.exe and pin it to your taskbar.

• Click on the Windows icon on your screen and Type cmd
• Click on Open File Location.
• Right-click on Command Prompt (cmd.exe) and go to the Properties.
• Click on the Advanced tab and check the box saying, “Run as administrator”
• Click on OK then Apply and then again OK.

Go to Start again and type CMD

Click on Pin to taskbar and you are done.

You will get a Command Prompt shortcut in your taskbar and it will always run with the administrative privileges.

How to Always Run PowerShell as an Administrator

You again have two options to always run an elevated PowerShell prompt.

1] Create a desktop shortcut

Just as we did for Command Prompt, you can do the same with PowerShell as well. We will create a PowerShell shortcut on our desktop and make it run always with administrator privileges.

To create a shortcut for PowerShell on the desktop, go to the Desktop.

1. Right-click > New >Shortcut.
2. Type PowerShell in the box in the pop-up window.
3. Finish the wizard and you will a PowerShell icon on your desktop. 
4. Right-click on the PowerShell icon and click on Properties.
5. Go to Advanced and check the box saying, “Run and administrator”
6. Click Ok then Apply and again Ok.

2] Change Advanced properties of powershell.exe

Same as we did with Command Prompt above, type PowerShell in your Windows Search box and open the file location.

Right-click on PowerShell > Properties > Advanced. 

Check the box saying, “Run and administrator”

Click OK then Apply and again OK.

Open PowerShell from your Search Box again and click on Pin to taskbar.

You are done.

You will now see a PowerShell icon in your taskbar and every time you click it you can open PowerShell with the administrator privileges.

How to Always Run Terminal as Administrator

To always run Terminal as an administrator follow these steps:

1. Right-click the Start button to open the Win X Menu
2. Select Windows Terminal
3. Select the drop-down ‘arrow’ menu next to the new tab option
4. Click on Settings
5. On the left pane select Defaults under Profiles
6. On the right side, turn on Run this profile as Administrator.

Program Update Form

If the courses you have listed on your program form do not match the course you have listed on your transcripts then you are required to fill out a program update form and submit it to the CS Admin Office (Room 106).

Progress Reports

Progress reports are required from all thesis-based graduate students 11 months after the start of a new program, and annually thereafter. 

The purpose of the progress report is to know how you are progressing on your research and that you have a plan for the upcoming year. It is best if you can discuss your progress and your goals with your supervisor before completing the progress report.

Once you submit your report, your supervisor and the graduate coordinator will be asked to provide their comments on the report. Either of them can return the report to you for further details or clarifications.

Important items on which to comment include:

• Any academic milestones that have been completed this past year
• Some key targets for the upcoming year, aiming for at least one per term
• The time when you are currently planning on graduating (can change over time)
• Any unexpected events in your research or program that are impacting your progress and how you are managing or mitigating these events

Directed Studies Proposal Form

The Directed Studies must be approved by both the student's thesis supervisor, directed study supervisor, and the graduate coordinator. Once approved, the graduate office will open registration for the student on Banner. This process should be completed before the last date to add a course. The process to follow is:

1. Student writes the content of the directed studies form with the following content, in a plain text (.txt) file:
   1. Short description of the course 150-300 words
   2. Set of milestones to be achieved, with dates
   3. Criteria for the evaluation of the outcome of the directed study
   4. Additional information:
      Required text and resources, incl. a reading list     
      Learning outcomes from the directed study
       
2. Student shares the form with his/her thesis supervisor and directed study supervisor (if different), receives feedback, and incorporates such feedback. 
3. Student submits the final form to the Online Directed Studies Proposal Form or Download the paper form [PDF-20kB]. 
4. The thesis and directed study supervisor and graduate coordinator will receive an email requesting approval.
5. Once approved, the graduate office will open the registration for the student on Banner.
6. This process should be completed before the end of the first week of classes in the term. 
7. Directed studies report must be completed and submitted to the directed studies supervisor by the last day of classes of the term and a letter grade must be submitted by email to graduate@cs.dal.ca and to the graduate coordinator 7 days after the last day of test of the term.
